Chairman's Message
DICCI was set on the auspicious day of April 14 - the date our Messiah and the Intellectual Father, Baba Saheb Dr. BR Ambedkar was born. Thus DICCI too was set with the core goal in mind- to advance business interests of the fellow members.
As DICCI grew in strength, we advanced our thinking further. My colleagues at DICCI spent hours and days debating on how to protect the image of our community. We got reminded of the stereotype built around us in the popular imagery of the mainstream Indian society- ' they are State’s Jamai.'
The Jamai tag born into the consciousness of the mainstream society and pasted on our foreheads is triggered by the fact that we take scholarships / reservations in education, jobs, Legislatures etc. Yes, we do take these facilities as we deserve these facilities. Haven't we been social victims for so long!
But, don’t we give anything back to society?
While DICCI is aware of a fact, which even mainstream society knows pretty well that India is also built on our labour and more often than not, underpaid. Not only that, our labour is undervalued. Our overall contribution in the nation building too is ignored.
We at DICCI began counting the taxes we pay to the State and jobs we generate. DICCI has grown more assertive in claiming that Dalits are not mere takers, but givers as well.
As DICCI continues growing in strength, so does our own intellectual profile. DICCI is now involved in a mammoth exercise of collecting the total revenue the Dalit Entrepreneurs pay to the Indian State. In collaboration with top Dalit intellectuals, DICCI is determined in proving that Dalit Entrepreneurs pay more to the State in form of taxes [Income Tax, Sales Tax, Excise Tax, Entertainment Tax, and Luxury Tax] than the Indian State spends on the welfare of Dalits.
With DICCI’s wings spreading globally, we are also learning fast. The way Black Capitalism galvanized the African Americans in America, our Dalit Capitalism ought to play a similar role back home.
The slogan - Be job givers, instead of job seekers is a new message to the community. Why should the followers of Baba Saheb be seeking jobs elsewhere! Our journey has just begun, and there is long way to go.
DICCI’s topmost agendas are to claim our share in the national economy, to create New Role Models of job givers, and to contribute even more in the nation building.
Join us today. Tomorrow will belong to us.
